Hello Thunderbird Families,

Welcome to a new school year at High Prairie Elementary! We are excited to start a new school year and welcome our new and returning students and families.

My name is Lyndsay Fleming, and I will be your Principal this year. This is my second year as Principal at HPE, and I am honoured to work with your amazing children and our wonderful staff every day. This year, we have two new staff members joining our team:

Mrs. Terra Shantz (Grade 4)

Ms. Annika Sware (Wellness Coach)

Our school motto, “We Care,” guides us daily in our interactions with each other and our community. We care about working together to ensure our school community is happy, healthy, safe and successful. Ongoing communication is an important way that we can reach these goals. You can learn more about what is happening at our school through our website, Facebook, Familygram and by reaching out to your child’s teacher or the office. If you have questions or concerns, please let your child’s teacher know. We encourage you to get in contact with us to learn more about school events or to share with us about your child so we can work together to support their needs.

Last year, we introduced a Character Education focus for each month, which will continue this year. Each month, we focused on a different virtue and how that related to being happy, healthy citizens in our community. At the end of the month, one grade leads an assembly where we talk about these qualities and celebrate a student in each class who personifies those qualities. We openly invite all our families to attend our assemblies, and teachers will reach out if your child is receiving an award or will be one of our student leaders in an assembly. We love to share our students’ successes each month. Be sure to look for our monthly videos that share pictures and videos of different events that happen during the month and be sure to follow our Facebook page for frequent updates.

This month, we are focusing on Bravery and Courage. We will be working with students to understand that to face life with courage is to know bravery. We will talk about finding your inner strength to face challenges in your life and finding the courage to be yourself even when others are choosing a different path. Being brave includes making positive choices and defending what you believe in and what is right for you and your community.

September is sure to be exciting; here are some important dates to remember:

  • September 6 and 7: Kindergarten Orientation
